Airbus scandal: “Mahama is a leader of integrity” -Mahama’s office welcomes OSP clearance
The office of former President John Dramani Mahama has expressed satisfaction with the ruling by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) that clears the ex-president of any involvement in the Airbus scandal.
In a statement released after the OSP’s decision, Mahama’s office emphasized that the ruling reaffirms the former president’s reputation for integrity and commitment to honesty throughout his political career.
“The OSP’s ruling confirms what we have always believed: John Dramani Mahama is a leader of integrity, dedicated to the principles of honesty and transparency,” the statement read.
Mahama’s team also criticized what they see as the current government’s attempt to exploit the scandal for political gain, despite the UK’s Serious Fraud Office previously exonerating Mahama’s brother and other involved parties. The statement, signed by special aide Joyce Bawah Mogtari, noted that the ruling government has continued to use the issue for political purposes.
The statement also revealed that President Nana Akufo-Addo had personally requested an investigation into Mahama, raising questions about the motivations behind the original accusations, which were seen as efforts to tarnish Mahama’s reputation.
“The false accusations against President Mahama over the past eight years have been consistently proven wrong,” the statement added, highlighting Mahama’s willingness to cooperate with investigations, confident that he has nothing to hide.
In a strong challenge, Mahama’s office called on Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and President Akufo-Addo to undergo similar scrutiny and transparency, stressing the importance of accountability for all leaders.
