Land dispute in Zogbei escalates to violence, resulting in four deaths
Four people were killed on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, as a long-standing land dispute between the Dagombas and Konkombas in Zogbei, Mion district, escalated into violence.
The conflict resulted in gunfire, casualties, and fatalities.
Reports indicate that four individuals lost their lives, and several motorbikes were set ablaze during the clash.
The violence has disrupted transportation, preventing road users from Tamale to Yendi and surrounding areas from passing through Zogbei, which is strategically located on the main Yendi-Tamale Road.
Although security personnel have been deployed to the area, the situation remains volatile, with residents living in fear and a tense atmosphere persisting.
District Chief Executive Officer for Mion Constituency, Alhassan Abubakari, confirmed in an interview with Citi FM’s Eyewitness News that calm had been restored, though the situation was critical earlier in the day. He noted that it was very difficult to pass from Tamale to Yendi in the morning due to the land dispute.
