IPGG Demands Payment of Power Purchase Arrears
The Independent Power Generators Ghana is demanding payments of accumulated power purchase arrears owed by the government.
The Chief Executive of IPGG, Dr. Elikplim Agbetorgbor, wondered what the delay in the disbursement of the funds secured from the International Monetary Fund, IMF, to pay debt in the power sector.
He called on the Finance Minister to expedite action on the disbursement of the fund to power producers so that they can also pay their creditors.
“The continuous delay in disbursing cash to the IPPs is becoming unbearable and frustrating. About a month ago the Finance Minister had a press conference to inform Ghanaians that he had secured about 360 million dollars cash released from the IMF.
What is holding back the disbursement of the cash released from the IMF to IPPs since it was announced a month ago,” Dr. Agbetorgbor said.
” This posture is not helpful to the industry. Finance Minister of the government should not assume that the arrears owed us are our profit for which they can do anything with it. These are monies due to creditors,
So I would like to appeal to him, to expedite action with the disbursement of cash to the IPPs. It helps everyone and it helps the sector.,” He appealed.
