Failed Independent Parliamentary candidate Kwabena Owusu Aduomi has decided to rejoin the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following a reconciliation meeting with the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Council of Elders on Monday, August 5, 2024.

Owusu Aduomi, who previously served as a three-time NPP Member of Parliament for the Ejisu constituency, ran as an Independent Candidate in the recent Ejisu by-election. He chose this path after raising concerns about the NPP’s handling of the delegates’ list, which he believed compromised the fairness of the party’s internal processes. In the by-election held on April 30, Aduomi was defeated by private legal practitioner Francis Kwabena Boateng.

Following the election, some NPP members accused Aduomi of betrayal, with rumors circulating that he had defected to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). However, in a statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Council of Elders on Tuesday, August 6, Aduomi assured that he remains committed to the NPP and promised to bring his supporters back into the party fold.

During the reconciliation meeting, Aduomi expressed his willingness to move past previous issues, stating, “my umbilical cord is planted in NPP, and the NPP runs through the veins of my blood.” He emphasized his unconditional return to the party and pledged to work towards reuniting his supporters with the NPP.

The National Chairman of the NPP, Stephen Ntim, had earlier promised to facilitate Aduomi’s reconciliation with the party following the by-election.
