Mahama claims NPP insiders are calling for party’s defeat in 2024 elections

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has asserted that some supporters of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) are discreetly advocating for the party’s exit in the 2024 general elections.

Mahama revealed that many NPP members feel the country is being controlled by a select few, to the detriment of the broader population.

He stated that these disillusioned NPP members are urging for his return to the presidency, allowing the NPP to reorganize itself.

During his tour of the Upper East region over the weekend, Mahama addressed party supporters and said that in Ghana, it is not the NPP, but a small family that has captured everything.

He noted that many of his friends in the NPP are telling him that the NDC must do well and get their party out of power.

He emphasized that this sentiment comes from within the NPP because the party has been captured by a small group of people.

Mahama contrasted this with the NPP under former President John Agyekum Kufuor, suggesting that the current leadership has deviated significantly from Kufuor’s era.

He added that the democrats and others in NPP want the party to lose so that they can go back into opposition and reorganize.

Comparing Ghana’s economic situation to other African countries, Mahama described it as worse off.

He mentioned ongoing protests in Nigeria and Kenya, where citizens are demonstrating against economic hardships and lack of opportunities and concluded that the situation in Ghana is worse.
