CJ Announces Creation of Dedicated Courts for Debt Recovery Cases

Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo announced that the Judicial Service will soon establish dedicated courts specifically for handling debt recovery cases.

This, she said, has become necessary as a result of the huge numbers of debt recovery cases filed at the Courts by companies. The Chief Justice said the first of such courts will be opened at La in Accra next week.

Justice Torkornoo made this announcement during her meeting with Court Correspondents, where she provided updates on the progress of various departments within the Judicial Service and the legal system.

Heads and representatives from the Judicial Service Training Institute, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Archives delivered presentations on their progress in improving the operations of the Judicial Service and the Courts.

Papa Maisie, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, mentioned that the Judicial Service is considering the creation of a court in every district and addressing the conditions of those currently in poor shape.

Noble Nutifafa, Director of IT, reported that the Service has made court judgments accessible to the public through digital means.

He explained that judgments are now posted on the africanlii.org platform for convenient public access. Justice Torkornoo affirmed that the Service is committed to improving the court experience for those seeking justice.

The Chief Justice observed that advancements in the judicial system will boost public confidence in seeking redress through legal channels. She also expressed her gratitude to the Management of the Judicial Service for their ongoing support of her vision to enhance justice delivery.
