National Security Minister, Albert Kan Dapaah, has expressed deep concern over the diminishing trust in Ghana’s judiciary among political actors, particularly in the lead-up to the December 7 polls.
Speaking at a forum in Accra, Mr. Kan Dapaah warned that the lack of confidence in the courts might deter major political parties from seeking judicial redress for electoral grievances, a situation that could lead to unrest.
He revealed that some senior political figures have openly questioned the courts’ ability to fairly address election-related concerns, signaling a potential crisis if this sentiment becomes widespread.
“Indeed, I have heard some senior people in the political space saying that they have lost faith in the courts’ ability to address their concerns when it comes to elections. This can create a situation that can set the stage for chaos,” the Minister cautioned.
Emphasizing the importance of a robust and transparent electoral system, Mr. Kan Dapaah urged citizens to prioritize peace and resist being manipulated by politicians who may not accept electoral outcomes.
“Ghanaians must also be aware of their responsibilities… Peace is very expensive, and sometimes we have to make sacrifices to maintain it,” he added, calling for a collective effort to ensure a peaceful election process.
