Five arrested in connection with fatal shooting incident near Nsawam

The Ghana Police Service has arrested five individuals following a shooting incident that occurred early Tuesday morning on July 30, 2024, in Okanta, near Nsawam in the Eastern Region. The incident resulted in the death of one person and the injury of a police officer.

The shooting happened when police officers from the Eastern South Regional Police Headquarters, accompanied by complainant Daniel Dosu, were ambushed by an unknown assailant while en route to make an arrest in Okanta.

Dosu sustained a gunshot wound to the forehead and was transported to the hospital alongside the injured police officer. Unfortunately, Dosu was pronounced dead upon arrival.

An intelligence-led operation following the attack led to the arrest of the prime suspect, Daniel Quaye, who was later identified as one of the individuals the deceased complainant was assisting the police in arresting.

Subsequent police investigations resulted in the apprehension of four additional suspects: Anum Joseph, Joshua Aboagye, Kwesi Acquaye, and Acquaye Samuel. The weapon used by suspect Quaye was also recovered.

The body of the deceased has been sent to the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy, while the injured police officer has been treated and discharged from the hospital.

Suspect Daniel Quaye and the four accomplices are currently in police custody, assisting with the investigation.
