Rotary club of Takoradi-Anaji donates GH₵10k worth of supplies to Kwesimintsim Gov’t Hospital

The Rotary Club of Takoradi-Anaji has made a significant donation to the Kwesimintsim Government Hospital, providing items worth GH₵10,000.

This generous contribution, focused on the hospital’s labor ward, aligns with the club’s monthly focus on maternal and child health.

Speaking to Beach FM, RP Rita Dede Hamidu, President of the Rotary Club, expressed her delight in successfully executing this project. She emphasized the importance of supporting mothers and new-borns at the hospital, stating, “I’m very delighted on this day for a successful project like this, it my first and it comes to authenticate the fact that I have taken the mantle as President and I’m happy to share it with mothers and new born babies at the Kwesimintsim Hospital.”

“This month on the rotary calendar is meant for maternal and child health and it is in the right direction. When we approached the hospital, we were given some needs list. Everything we are giving is worth GHS10,000 –we are giving them a potable cylinder and its trolley because the current cylinder in the hospital is quite huge in size and moving it becomes a problem. We also have some delivery mats, and a host of other items for those mothers who can’t afford their delivery needs. We also have hampers for the new mothers to say congratulations for the delivery.”

RP Dede also highlighted the Rotary Club’s commitment to continuity and future planning, noting that each president prepares for their term well in advance to ensure seamless transitions and sustained community impact.

“Rotary is an institution that plans ahead of time, and that’s how come every President is elected 18 months before you assume office so I have been given the nod a long time ago and I have prepared my plans based on the given themes. It’s all about continuity; I’m going to continue every project that was started by our past presidents and hand over to the community to benefit from them. So expect more from us”, she added.

Receiving the items, Hamdiyatu Rashid, Senior Midwifery Officer at the hospital’s labor ward, expressed heartfelt gratitude. She highlighted the challenges faced by the ward, including the need for additional beds due to high delivery rates, and appreciated the immediate relief provided by the donations, particularly the portable cylinder.

“We are very excited because times are hard and these the teenagers are coming into labor without anything and we have to rely on some of the mothers here –married or matured women to lend them baby clothes, sheets, sanitary products, to be given to the teenagers. So bringing these items, will reduce our load. I am very happy about the cylinder because every time a mother/baby is in distress we have to carry it which is very heavy but this is simple. Thank you to the Rotary Club of Takoradi-Anaji.”

“We need a ward expansion because we need to increase our bed capacity from 14 beds, we are doing about 60 to 70 deliveries a week. Because of space we try and discharge mothers 6 hours after delivery. If we can reach 25 bedding capacity, it will really help us”, she called on benevolent organizations.

Charter President, CP Isaac Osabu Anang and President-Elect Rotarian Edward Odootei also spoke on the importance of service and continuity within the Rotary Club, emphasizing ongoing efforts to support and uplift the community.

The Charter President of the Club, CP Osabu Anang said, “rotary offers one big opportunity to serve, because there will be a time where one cannot serve anymore. For the past four years we have been working hard to serve our communities, especially the less privileged. We just servants and it is a honour. We must add our weight behind our leaders to serve society. There are a lot of things outlined for this year; we are targeting to move closer to the Anaji enclave to impact them too.”
