Minority labels govt’s recruitment of 15,000 nurses and midwives as political gimmick

The Minority has condemned the government's announcement of recruiting 15,200 nurses and midwives, labeling it a political ploy.

The Minority in Parliament has condemned the government’s announcement of recruiting 15,200 nurses and midwives, labeling it a political ploy.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) declared the recruitment would start on August 5, 2024, following financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance (MoF).

According to the MoH’s statement on July 26, 2024, applicants can submit their applications through the Ministry’s online portal, selecting their preferred agency. The application period ends on August 23, 2024, and the process is free of charge.

However, the minority caucus criticized this move, recalling a similar recruitment strategy in 2020, where health workers were appointed with effective dates post-election.

Addressing journalists, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Ranking Member on the Health Committee, advised healthcare workers to be wary of such last-minute tactics.
