Search for boy who fell from cliffs called off after body found
A search for a 12-year-old boy who fell from the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare has been called off following the recovery of a body.
Gardaí (Irish police) and the coast guard confirmed that the body was found on Sunday morning.
The boy had been reported missing on Tuesday after becoming separated from his family, who were visiting Ireland from overseas.
They were exploring the Cliffs of Moher when the incident occurred.
The search operation, which involved the Irish coast guard, Gardaí, and Irish civil defense volunteers, utilized drones, boats, divers, and a helicopter to cover the Cliffs of Moher, Galway Bay, and the Aran Islands.
On Sunday, a fishing vessel spotted a body at sea between Doolin and the Aran Islands and reported it to the Coast Guard Rescue Coordination Centre in Valentia.
Volunteers from the Doolin Coast Guard Unit and the Aran Islands RNLI located and recovered the body, which was then handed over to An Garda Síochána.
The body will be taken to University Hospital Limerick for official identification and a post-mortem examination, as reported by RTÉ.
