Sefwi Wiawso NPP Insists Speaker Apologizes for Sacking Dr. Kwaku Afriyie
The Leadership of the NPP in the Sefwi Wiawso Constituency of the Western North Region is demanding an apology from the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin for sacking their MP, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie over alleged rude behaviour made during proceedings last Monday.
They voiced their concerns at a press conference at Sefwi Wiawso.
The Constituency Secretary of the Party, Atta Marfo said what the Speaker did undermined the integrity of the MP as well as the entire people of Sefwi and therefore demanded an urgent apology.
Mr. Marfo said, they are giving the Speaker one week to render an apology to the people of Sefwi Wiawso.
He highlighted that ” since the standing orders eschew the Speaker from engaging in a debate, on the floor, so once the Speaker turn himself as an MP and engaging the floor was unparliamentary, and therefore we are demanding an unqualified apology from the Speaker of Parliament, “
Mr. Marfo stressed that, even though the Speaker had to maintain order and sanity, he should exercised some form of impartiality in his decision.
Some of the Constituency and Regional officers of the party including the Regional Communications Officer Harry Addo and the Regional Elections Research Officer Samuel Kofi Abiw also added their voice to the issue.
Meanwhile, MP for Sefwi Wiawso, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie in a statement extended his sincere thanks to the people of Sefwi Wiawso, the entire Western North Region, and all fellow Ghanaians for their unwavering support and unity during recent challenges.
