Sister of late president Atta Mills condemns Koku Anyidoho’s actions at Asomdwee park
Mercy Araba Ahema Quarshie, sister of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, has voiced her strong disapproval of Koku Anyidoho, former deputy general secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for his actions concerning the former president’s grave.
A disturbance occurred on Wednesday at Asomdwee Park when Mr. Anyidoho exceeded his allocated time during a memorial service, resulting in a delay for Atta Mills’ relatives and NDC members. The family had earlier accused Mr. Anyidoho of bringing individuals who falsely claimed to be family members of the late president for a wreath-laying ceremony.
During the 12th-anniversary memorial service, Ms. Quarshie criticized Mr. Anyidoho for tampering with Prof. Atta Mills’ grave without the family’s consent. She emphasized that Mr. Anyidoho’s actions would not go unpunished.
“People with Koku Anyidoho, pretending to be the real relatives of Atta Mills. That is never true. We don’t know them from anywhere and they were here. He has schooled them, telling them that the rest of us are paternal brothers and sisters and they are the real Atta Mills family.
“It was so disgusting to find an 80-year-old woman, pouring libation and hitting her thigh saying that she gave birth to Atta Mills. I was wondering if she gave birth as a baby.”
“I want to make it clear to everyone that Koku Anyidoho has stepped on the wrong foot by tampering with our brother’s grave without our knowledge. That is totally unacceptable and now we are going to deal with him because it is a taboo in our family to do that.”
Ms. Quarshie’s remarks underline the family’s resolve to address the disrespect shown towards the late president’s memory and their determination to seek consequences for Mr. Anyidoho’s unauthorized actions.
