Chief Executives narrowly escape robbery attack on Berekum-Drobo highway
Two Chief Executives in the Bono Region narrowly escaped a deadly robbery attack on the Fetentaa section of the Berekum-Drobo highway. The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, between 4:30 PM and 5:00 PM.
Mr. Andrews Bediako, the Jaman South Municipal Chief Executive, and Mr. Solomon Owusu, the Jaman North District Chief Executive, were returning from a meeting in Sunyani to their respective districts when they encountered a group of armed robbers.
According to Mr. Bediako, the robbers, who were approximately five in number, targeted market women and traders traveling from Drobo and Sampa towards Berekum and Sunyani.
The robbers emerged from the roadside, fired gunshots, and signaled vehicles to stop.
They also broke the windscreen of Mr. Bediako’s vehicle with a piece of lumber. Despite the chaos, the executives managed to flee the scene.
During the attack, the vehicle of Mr. Owusu broke down, but both executives and their teams were able to escape unharmed.
They immediately contacted the police and alerted oncoming traffic. The robbers, sensing the approach of law enforcement, fled into the nearby bush.
