Sefwi-Wiawso residents demand apology from Bagbin over their MP’s dismissal
Residents of Sefwi-Wiawso in the Western North region says they are displeased with the conduct of the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, over the sacking of the MP for Sefwi-Wiawso Constituency, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie from Parliament on Monday, July 22.
Speaker Alban Bagbin ordered the removal of Kwaku Afriyie following what he deemed contemptuous remarks.
The incident followed the Speaker’s announcement of new Supreme Court judge nominations.
Although Majority Chief Whip Frank Annor-Dompreh apologized on behalf of Dr. Afriyie, the latter insisted he did not authorize the apology and maintained that he did nothing wrong.
In response, the residents said speaker did not only disrespect their representative, but the entire people in the constituency.
They posit that Dr. Afriyie has contributed significantly to the development of the country and did not deserve such treatment from the Speaker.
The residents, while staging a protest, gave Speaker Alban Bagbin a week’s ultimatum to apologize to Dr. Kwaku Afriyie and the people of Sefwi Wiawso.
“Dr. Afriyie is an elderly man and even without that, he is someone who has done a lot for Ghana so he should not be disrespected like that.” one of the protesters said.
