An Economist and Financial Consultant, Obiri Yeboah has advised the government to be prudent in its quest to mobilise revenue domestically.
According to him, the government should be deliberate about making ‘sound and prudent economic decisions’ rather than focusing on winning the next elections.
He said, in an interview on Spice FM, that if the government fails to do so, the country may plunge into economic instability in the coming years.
Economist Obiri Yeboah did not mince words as he revealed the consequences economic hardships would have on citizens, adding that citizens may opt for military rule instead of democratic governance.
He urged political leaders not to discard the ideology of winning elections but to draw out policies to help alleviate hardships for Ghanaians.
“What I am saying is, sound and prudent decisions must override political interests that beyond December 7, this country won’t face worse economic hardship than before. If the government do not pay heed to what Ghanaians are saying and do otherwise, I’m sorry to say that, this country may experience what other countries are going through.
It is not the wish of Ghanaians for Ghana to reach that level. If the economic hardship of Ghanaians is not addressed, by 2026 more than 50 percent of Ghanaians would call for military intervention, ” He stressed.
“My point is, we should tell this government to make sound and prudent economic decisions which will alleviate hardship on Ghanaians.
If you keep quiet on this intending to break the 8, and afterwards, Ghanaians won’t have time to wait on anyone again,” Obiri Yeboah added.
