GAAM President Urges Assembly Members To Do Away With Partisanship

Frank Nelson Ackah, the National President of the Ghana Association of Assembly Members (GAAM) and Assembly Member for the Asawinso ‘A’ Electoral Area in the Bibiani-Anwhiaso-Bekwai Municipality, has raised concerns regarding the extensive political engagement of assembly members.

He expressed dismay over how this political involvement has facilitated easier manipulation of assembly members by politicians.

Frank Nelson Ackah pointed out that many assembly members readily support unhelpful proposals during assembly meetings because of their political affiliations.

He also suggested that some individuals attend these meetings primarily to collect the hundred-cedi sitting allowance, rather than genuinely serving their communities.

He criticized assembly members for perpetuating their challenges through their actions and called on them to unite and set aside partisan differences.

According to him, unity is crucial for pursuing a collective agenda that benefits their communities.

“The deep indulgence in politics among assembly members has created an environment where politicians can easily manipulate us. Many of us hastily concord unhelpful proposals during meetings simply because of our political ties,” Mr Ackah stressed.

“It is crucial for us to come together and do away with partisanship in our service. Only then can we effectively fight for a common agenda that truly serves the interests of our people,” He added.
