Trump gets rapturous welcome at Republican convention after assassination attempt

With a bandage covering one ear, Donald Trump made a dramatic return to the public stage on Monday evening at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, receiving an enthusiastic welcome from thousands of supporters just two days after surviving an assassination attempt.

The former president entered the convention arena with his fist raised, accompanied by a live rendition of “God Bless the USA.”

He walked slowly through cheering delegates, some visibly emotional with tears in their eyes, and greeted key political allies and family members, including three of his children, but not Melania Trump.

Throughout the event, the crowd chanted “Fight! Fight! Fight!” in solidarity with Trump, echoing his rallying cry after narrowly escaping injury from a bullet that grazed his ear at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

Trump, now the Republican nominee for the upcoming presidential election, capitalized on a surge of political momentum.

While the Democratic Party scrutinizes 81-year-old Joe Biden’s candidacy following a lackluster debate performance, Trump’s team celebrates recent legal victories.

During the convention at Fiserv Forum, Trump listened to approximately an hour of speeches while seated next to his vice-presidential candidate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, whose nomination for November’s election was announced just hours earlier.

Although Trump did not deliver a speech himself, he visibly reacted to the energy of the crowd, bowing his head in prayer and silently mouthing “Thank you, everybody” several times.

Supporters and Republican delegates, many visibly moved, had waited eagerly for Trump’s appearance, which was not officially scheduled for the convention’s opening day but was widely anticipated.
