Fuel Prices Expected to Rise 3-4% as Cedi Weakens: COPEC Urges Tax Cuts for Affordability

The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers, COPEC has projected a three to four per cent increase in the prices of petroleum products at the pumps starting today, Tuesday, July 16, 2024.

The projection is due to the cedi’s further depreciation against the dollar.

Executive Secretary of COPEC, Duncan Amoah urged the government to cut taxes to make it more affordable and protect the environment.

” There is a likelihood that petrol across the country will not be stable, will not go down but rather go up effectively today, which is also the second window for July.

This is simply because you have a situation where the cedi fall is certainly affecting all of us, and you are aware that there is an unspoken rule that the dollar mostly costs a litre in Ghana, so if you see a situation where one dollar is around 15.55, there is a higher tendency for your fuel pricing to also inch up to those numbers,” He said.
