The Chief of Nkroful, Nana Kwasi Kutuah, along with the Nzema Manle, has summoned Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to Nkroful to offer an unreserved apology to the kinsmen of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

This follows NAPO’s controversial remarks during his unveiling in Kumasi, where he appeared to dismiss Nkrumah’s legacy.

Despite issuing a general apology, the Nzema leadership, at a press conference on Sunday, July 14, in Nkroful, stated that NAPO’s failure to explicitly acknowledge the insult to Nkrumah in his apology was insufficient. They insist that Dr. Prempeh must come to Nkroful to apologize directly to Nkrumah’s family and the Nzema people.

Nana Kwasi Kutuah criticized Dr. Prempeh’s comments, which included the phrase “Mo Kwame Nkrumah Nu” (“Your Kwame Nkrumah”), as grossly disrespectful. He condemned the remarks as an affront to democracy and a threat to national peace and unity.

“His comments where he alluded to using the phrase in our local Twi parlance as “Mo Kwame Nkrumah Nu” meaning “Your Kwame Nkrumah” smacks as gross disrespect against Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah and we condemn it with all alacrity. Dr. Prempeh’s comments are an affront to our democracy and have the potential to derail the peace and unity of the country.

“It is intriguing to note that his posture of not admitting to insulting Nkrumah in his release is not enough and we call on him to come again, since his claim is deemed hollow.”

“Our attention has been drawn to various media publications that Dr Prempeh has rendered an apology to Nkrumah and other past Presidents of Ghana. We, therefore, demand Dr Prempeh come to Nzema to meet Nananom and the family of Dr. Nkrumah at Nkroful to render an unreserved apology to the kinsmen of the revered icon,” he demanded.

The chief further warned politicians against undermining Nkrumah’s legacy, emphasizing that the Nzema people are prepared to defend the revered leader’s reputation.

“We the Chiefs, people of Nkroful, Nzema and Western Region want to tell the World that we cherish the achievements of Dr. Nkrumah and will not allow anyone or group to bring the hard-won reputation of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah into disrepute.

“We would like to admonish all political actors and their followers to desist from denigrating the image of the “African of the Millenium” whom the World has accepted as a global icon. In conclusion, we would like to entreat all political actors and their followers to advocate messages that will unite, foster peace and development of our motherland, Ghana,” he added.
