World Population Day: Focus on Youth Unemployment and Empowerment

World Population Day is celebrated annually not just to consider the number of people but to focus on pressing issues in societies and how to transform them.

Speaking at an event to mark the day, the Board Chairperson of the Ghana Statistical Service, Dr. Grace Bediako emphasized that the objective of the day, which is data collection and analysis should support the evidence-based decision, and solve problems in the society.

Madam Hagan said the youth constitute formidable components of the country’s population and called for an urgent need to put in place programs to harness their potential.

She highlighted Ghana’s current population growth figures.

Intergovernmental dialogue delved into various issues facing the youth with a focus on unemployment affecting the majority of them and their non-involvement in decision-making.

A call was made for the youth to engage in agriculture and entrepreneurship.
