President Akufo-Addo Accepts Opoku Prempeh’s Resignation as Energy Minister

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has accepted the resignation of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, known as NAPO, from his position as Energy Minister.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s resignation follows his selection as the running mate of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, effective July 18, 2024.

In a statement issued on July 11, 2024, Director of Communications Eugene Arhin announced the President’s acceptance of Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s resignation, expressing deep gratitude for his dedicated service.

The statement highlighted Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s significant contributions and accomplishments during his tenure as both Minister for Education and Minister for Energy.

This decision allows Dr. Opoku Prempeh to focus on his new role as the vice-presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

President Akufo-Addo has appointed Abu Jinapor, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and MP for Damongo, to oversee the Ministry of Energy in the interim.
