Parliament Greenlights National Service Authority Bill
Parliament has passed the National Service Authority Bill, 2024, transforming the National Service Scheme into an Authority.
As a corporate body, the new Authority will now have the legal capacity to develop and implement policies and programs for national service.
The National Service Authority Bill, 2024, was introduced in Parliament by the Education Minister under a certificate of urgency on June 14, 2024, according to a Cabinet Memorandum.
Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi, expressed gratitude to Parliament for the unified effort in passing the bill.
He noted that once the President assents to the bill, the new Authority status will expand the NSS’s scope of operations.
Currently, the scheme does not owe any service personnel and is in a better financial position to reduce its reliance on government funding.
