Bagbin orders Investigation into immigration officers’ assault on woman
Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has mandated an investigation into a video showing immigration officers assaulting a woman at the Aflao border in the Ketu South Municipality.
The incident was raised by the MP for the area, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, who questioned the service’s training protocols and the culture at the border facility.
The video depicts gun-wielding immigration officers physically assaulting an unarmed woman. In response, Speaker Bagbin directed the Interior Minister to report to Parliament on the matter by July 29, 2024. He emphasized that public servants are expected to serve the public and not use force.
Bagbin highlighted the unacceptable use of force by public servants, particularly against women, and called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
He stressed that public servants are there to serve the public, not to use force, which is reserved as a last resort for the armed forces.
The Speaker underscored that the incident is especially egregious given that it involved violence against a woman, stating that such actions are completely unacceptable and must be addressed through proper investigation and accountability.
