Four teachers caught in exam malpractices during BECE in Bekwai

The WAEC has reported that four teachers have been caught engaging in BECE malpractices in Bekwai, Ashanti Region.

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has reported that four teachers have been caught engaging in BECE malpractices in Bekwai, Ashanti Region.

This incident occurred during the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which commenced on Monday, July 8, across various centers in the country.

Despite the generally smooth and peaceful conduct of the exams, accompanied by warnings from stakeholders, including President Akufo-Addo, against examination malpractices, some irregularities have been reported.

Speaking to the media after monitoring several examination centers, WAEC’s Head of National Office, Wendy Addy-Lamptey, emphasized the need for stakeholders to instill discipline in students to prevent cheating. She acknowledged the overall good conduct of the exams but noted a few incidents, particularly involving teachers in Obuasi-Bekwai who were caught assisting candidates.

Addy-Lamptey stated, “with regard to the conduct itself, I think we’ve had good conduct this morning and again this afternoon. I must say that we have just had a few reports. We have had a few people picked up, some teachers picked up in Obuasi, Bekwai, trying to help the candidates. About three or four of them, but as I said, we just had a report, so the details of it will be coming and then we’ll put it out.”
