The Ghana Plastic Manufacturers Association (GPMA) has cancelled its planned protest against the 5% excise tax on locally produced plastics.
The association previously announced a demonstration on July 10th after attempts to get the government to suspend the tax were unsuccessful.
However, a meeting with Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Michael Okyere Baafi, on July 8th led to a change of plans.
According to the GPMA, Mr. Baafi assured them of further discussions with the government to halt the implementation of the tax.
This positive development prompted the association to call off both the protest and their threatened production shutdown.
