Mahama commits to strengthening Office of the Special Prosecutor
John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has announced his intention to strengthen the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) if elected president in the upcoming elections.
Speaking to journalists in Accra on Sunday, Mahama emphasized his commitment to enhancing the OSP rather than abolishing it.
Established in 2018, the OSP serves as an independent anti-corruption body in line with the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC).
Its mandate includes investigating and prosecuting corruption-related offences in both public and private sectors, recovering illicit wealth, and implementing measures to prevent corruption.
Mahama reiterated his plan to reinforce the OSP with additional resources and measures.
Additionally, he proposed the creation of an independent value-for-money office to scrutinize government procurements exceeding $5 million, or as recommended by Parliament.
