Western Regional Zongo Youth Chief Raises Concerns Over Welfare of Ghanaian Pilgrims in Saudi Arabia

The Western Regional Zongo Youth, Chief Alhaji Rufai Tanko Nuhu has raised concerns over the welfare of Ghanaian Muslims who participated in this year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia.

Addressing the media in Sekondi, Alhaji Rufai Tanko Nuhu, highlighted some challenges his Ghanaian counterparts faced during the holy pilgrim.

According to him, the Hajj Board did not prioritise the welfare of Ghanaians, citing poor accommodations and unsanitary conditions amid high charges from the Board.

He pointed out that, countries which participated in the Hajj paid less amount of money as compared to that of Ghanaians.

Alhaji Nuhu appealed to the authorities especially the Ghana Hajj Board to take the welfare concerns of the pilgrims seriously in the future.

He, however, pushed for a subsided price of Hajj fees as part of the preparations.

” I believe the Hajj Board can do better by bringing the price down. The profit they have added to their price is way too much. It’s more than half of what they will spend. When the Hajj Board goes to the Saudi Embassy, and they are collecting visas for people, it’s at a discount, because they are not going to pay the same as an individual.

I want to send a message to them not to use this position to accumulate wealth, this is a religion we are talking about. Give people the chance to fulfil their pillar in Islam.”
