The National Executive Council (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will convene today, July 4, to discuss the selection of the running mate of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for the upcoming December 7 general elections.
Dr. Bawumia is expected to present Energy Minister Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh as his choice, outlining the reasons for this selection and advocating for his approval as the vice-presidential candidate.
This process adheres to the party’s constitution, which requires the NEC, the second-highest decision-making body, to approve or reject the nomination.
Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, who previously served as the Education Minister and oversaw the implementation of the Free Senior High School policy, is seen as a strategic choice to bolster the party’s campaign with his expertise and leadership.
A recent survey indicates that Dr. Prempeh is the preferred candidate among the party’s grassroots members, enhancing the significance of today’s NEC meeting.
