Mental Health Nurse Discusses Impact of Stress

Stress is mostly defined as a state of worry or mental tension caused by a difficult situation.

Stress according to experts is a natural human response that prompts us to address challenges and threats in our lives.

Experts say everyone experiences stress to some degree, but how to respond to stress however makes a difference to our overall well-being.

Speaking on Spice FM, a mental nurse at the Anaji Health Center, Jonathan Essel mentions that stress makes it difficult for a person to relax and can come with a range of emotions including anxiety and irritability.

He says stress can affect a person’s daily activity, and social interactions which can lead to mental illness.

Mr. Essel urged individuals to stay away from circumstances which put their mentality in danger.

He mentioned the forms of stress as emotional, psychological, physical and others which are caused by the illness or death of a loved one, marriage, separation or divorce, and financial issues.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the Gallup Global Emotions report for 2021 found that almost 190 million people worldwide experienced significantly higher stress in 2020 than in previous years, largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In managing or treating stress, an individual is advised to Keep a daily routine, Get plenty of sleep, Keep in touch with family and friends and share your concerns and feelings with people you trust, and ry to eat a balanced diet and to eat at regular intervals.
