Fuel prices surge as OMCs adjust rates in July

Several oil marketing companies (OMCs) have increased fuel prices at the pump following the commencement of the first pricing window in July.

Several oil marketing companies (OMCs) in Ghana have increased fuel prices at the pump following the commencement of the first pricing window in July.

This adjustment, as explained by energy think tanks like the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) and the Institute for Energy Security, is due to rising costs of refined petroleum products on the international market and the depreciation of the Cedi.

Among the companies adjusting their prices, Star Oil has raised the price of a litre of petrol to GHȼ13.83 from GHȼ13.66 in June’s second pricing window, while diesel has increased to GHȼ14.79 from GHȼ13.97. Shell now sells petrol at GHȼ14.80 per litre and diesel at GHȼ14.92, up from GHȼ14.60 and GHȼ14.75, respectively, in the previous pricing window.

Market leaders such as state-owned GOIL and Total Energies have yet to announce any price hikes.

Currently, GOIL is selling petrol at GH₵14.80 per litre and Diesel XP at GH₵14.92 per litre. Total Energies has maintained its prices, with petrol at GH¢14.85 and diesel at GH₵14.95, consistent over the last two pricing windows.
