Rotary club of Takoradi-Anaji donates nurses quarters to Sekondi school for the deaf (SEKdeaf)

The Rotary Club of Takoradi-Anaji has handed over the first floor of a new nurses quarters to the Sekondi School for the Deaf (SEKdeaf).

The Rotary Club of Takoradi-Anaji has completed and handed over the first floor of a new nurses quarters to the Sekondi School for the Deaf (SEKdeaf).

Speaking to Beach FM on Friday, June 28, outgoing President RP Edwin Kofi Amanor highlighted the club’s commitment to improving healthcare at the school.

“As part of our project plans for the year, we decided to continue and complete the first phase of the nurses quarters for the Sekondi School for the Deaf. This initiative, initially started by our Charter President Isaac Osabu Anang and continued by Immediate Past President Angelina Aba Yalley, has now seen the first phase completed, with work on the second phase underway”, RP Amanor said.

The project aims to enhance the healthcare needs of the school by providing on-campus accommodation for nurses, ensuring that students receive immediate attention during night-time emergencies.

RP Amanor acknowledged the support of various philanthropists and club members who contributed to the fundraising efforts, emphasizing that the project’s success is a collective achievement of the Rotary Club of Takoradi-Anaji and its sponsors.

We fell, on a lot of, philanthropist, and they also donated to support us during our fundraising event. So this project is not only a success of Rotary Club of Takoradi-Anaji, but also a success in whole with the sponsors and the contributors, all those who brought together their effort, their money to bring this project to this completion.”

He furthered that, “phase one and two has been done, and we are left with the final stage. So currently, the whole project is valued at 500,000 cedis, we will need to go ahead with the final stage which is estimated at 100,000 cedis.”

Charter President Isaac Osabu Anang expressed gratitude for the part-completion of the project.

“This project was conceived around 2020 during our charter. We identified this need as a priority because nurses were not staying on campus, making it difficult to provide medical attention during emergencies. I’m very emotional and happy that this project has come to fruition”, he said.

Regina Assilfie, the Headmistress of SEKdeaf, expressed her gratitude for the new nurses quarters, calling for further assistance. “I’m very glad for the beautiful nurses quarters that the Rotary Club of Takoradi-Anaji has donated to us today. I pray this wouldn’t end here, but they will come and help us again. We need many things, including the renovation and refurbishment of our audio centre”, she appealed to other benevolent organizations.

The project began with the vision to address the healthcare needs of the students at the Sekondi School for the Deaf (SEKdeaf). Successive club presidents, from CP Isaac Osabu Anang to IPP Angelina Aba Yalley and RP Edwin Kofi Amanor, each played a pivotal role in advancing the project. Their efforts culminated in the completion of Phase 1 and its official handover, marking a significant milestone in the club’s commitment to community service.
