The government has reaffirmed its commitment to inaugurate a 40-bed health facility in Suame, Ashanti region, by September this year.
This facility is one of five VAMED health centers in the region, part of a 2020 initiative to construct 12 such facilities across Ahafo, Eastern, Ashanti, and Greater Accra regions.
During a site visit, Health Minister Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye was informed by engineers that the project is 95% complete in civil works and 70% complete in medical equipment installation.
Although the project, which began in July 2021, was initially slated for completion in 2023, financial constraints caused delays. Nevertheless, the contractor is optimistic about completing the facility by September.
Several challenges have been identified, including poor road access, land ownership disputes, and structural integrity issues. Dr. Okoe Boye assured that these problems will be addressed in consultation with the relevant authorities.
