Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo Markin has announced that Parliament will now hold sittings after 3 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
This decision follows the Minority’s declaration that they will boycott parliamentary sessions on days when their leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, is in court.
Dr. Ato Forson is currently facing trial for his alleged involvement in a failed ambulance deal during his tenure as Deputy Finance Minister.
Afenyo Markin explained that the new schedule is designed to accommodate the situation and ensure that parliamentary business continues smoothly.
“Mr. Speaker, there is an arrangement that on Tuesdays and Thursdays we sit after 3 pm. As a result of that, questions will receive written answers, which answers will be published for members, so that arrangement is in place. No member will lose an opportunity to have answers to questions because of the late sitting,” he stated.
This adjustment aims to ensure that all parliamentary duties are fulfilled without interruption despite the planned absences of the Minority.
