Ursula Owusu-Ekuful condemns lobbying for NPP running mate position

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West and Minister of Communications, has voiced her disapproval of lobbying efforts to become the running mate for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate.

In an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show, Owusu-Ekuful criticized such lobbying as disrespectful and undermining Dr. Bawumia’s decision-making authority.

She emphasized the importance of allowing him to choose his running mate without external pressure, stating that the decision should be left entirely to the flagbearer.

Calls for the NPP’s flagbearer to nominate a female running mate have grown, with notable figures such as Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare and District Assembly Common Fund Administrator Naa Torshie being mentioned.

However, Owusu-Ekuful clarified that while her name might be speculated, she has not expressed interest in the position to anyone.

Ursula reiterated the need to give Dr. Bawumia the space to make his own decision, adding that while a female running mate would be a positive development, the choice ultimately rests with the flagbearer.
