Immunization is among the most important public health interventions for preventing and reducing morbidity and mortality in all societies and countries.
It is for this reason, the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly Health Directorate will from Wednesday, June 26 commence vaccination of citizens who are yet to be vaccinated against Covid-19.
The latest vaccination drive is expected to last for 5 days to prevent a possible surge in cases of COVID-19.
Vida Nyarko, A public health nurse with the EKMA Health Directorate, said, the vaccination is to help get herd immunity in the municipality as well as the region.
Some of the vaccines to be administered are Johnson and Johnson, for ages 18 years and above.
As part of the COVID-19 vaccination, there would also be routine vaccinations for children under 5 years.
Madam Nyarko urged the public to welcome health workers into their homes to give them the vaccine.
Edith Kissiwaa, a Health promotion officer on her part said health practitioners are doing their best to vaccinate the targeted population, however, such as misinformation and myths surrounding the COVID-19 vaccines made it difficult to meet the target.
She also encouraged citizens who had yet to receive the doses to do so to prevent themselves from easily contracting COVID-19, as it was still present in the system.
