Dr Prince Hamid Armah pledges urgent drainage solutions for flood-prone areas in Kwesimintsim
During a recent working visit to the Western Region, Dr. Prince Hamid Armah, the Deputy Minister of Works and Housing and Member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim Constituency, addressed critical drainage issues in several flood-prone areas within his constituency.
In an interview with Beach FM, Dr. Armah highlighted the severe flooding challenges faced by residents in Apollo due to the area’s low-lying nature. He announced immediate plans to construct a 600-meter drainage system to mitigate the frequent flooding that inundates homes during heavy rains.
“I’ve been to Apollo to look at their situation –because of the low lying nature of the area, water through the drains end up flooding people’s homes anytime there’s a major downpour. What we will do is to construct 600-meters long drainage system immediately to address this situation.”
“Kwesimintsim-krom is also grappling with similar drainage problems,” Dr. Prince Hamid Armah noted. He outlined the need for a 700-meter drainage system to resolve these issues effectively. Additionally, he provided updates on the ongoing 850-meter drainage project in I-Adu, assuring residents that the contractor is working diligently to complete it by September or October.
“Kwesimintsim ‘krom’ is also battling the same challenge. We need about 700 meter-length of drains. At I-Adu, contractors are working assiduously around the clock to complete the 850-meter drainage system there. I have spoken to the contractor and he has given me the assurances that work will be completed by September-October”, he stated.
Dr. Armah also emphasized the urgent need for a 1.2-kilometer drainage system in Anaji-fie and acknowledged other communities facing similar challenges. He reassured the people of Kwesimintsim that these projects are a priority for the Ministry, stating, “all of these have been captured at the Ministry, and I want to assure the people of Kwesimintsim constituency that we will deliver. I am pushing to make sure that we get our share of projects.”
