The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has initiated an investigation into reports that a patient from Winneba Trauma Hospital was allegedly abandoned in the bush at Gomoa Ojobi in the Central Region.

The patient, who had been hospitalized for two months following an accident, reportedly had two broken legs and developed a mental illness as a result of her injuries. Her family did not come to care for her, unlike other patients.

Community members reported seeing the patient being transported in the hospital’s ambulance and left in a wheelchair in the bush near Ojobi, which she claimed was her hometown. She was later found dead.

Eyewitnesses told UTV that they saw the ambulance drop her off but did not intervene, assuming her caretakers would collect her.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the woman was later found unresponsive and eventually passed away days after being left.

In response, the GHS stated, “upon receiving this disturbing news, we have initiated investigations to establish the authenticity of the story in line with existing public service practices to enable us to take appropriate actions.”

The GHS urged the public to remain patient, assuring that anyone found responsible for this incident will be severely dealt with in accordance with the Service’s Code of Conduct.
