We Still Can’t Afford Basics! Sekondi-Takoradi Residents Vent Frustrations Over High Cost of Living

A cross-section of the public in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis has vented their frustrations over the high cost of living in the country.

Expressing their views on the Spice Morning Show, they pointed out some major issues that account for the economic hardship of Ghanaians.

Reacting to the current inflation rate released by the Ghana Statistical Service for May, they posit that although inflation has reduced, it is not reflected in their living standards.

Inflation for May declined to 23.1 percent from 25.0 per cent recorded in April 2024, which represents a 1.9 percent point decrease between April and May 2024.

According to GSS, food inflation contributed to the overall drop, recording a rate of 22.6 percent as compared to 26.8 percent in April.

The data further revealed that the non-food group recorded a year-on-year inflation rate of 23.6 percent in May from 23.5 percent in April 2024, whereas inflation for locally produced items and imported items fell to 24.7 percent and 19.6 percent, respectively.

The public proposed including agricultural programs in the educational curriculum in schools, encouraging more youth to venture into agriculture by making it more attractive.

This, they believe, can solve the high food inflation rates in the country.
