Parliament reconvenes today to address urgent gov’t business following abrupt recess

Parliament will reconvene on Tuesday, June 11, for the second meeting of the Fourth Session after an abrupt adjournment on March 20, 2024.

Parliament will reconvene today, Tuesday, June 11, for the second meeting of the Fourth Session after an abrupt adjournment on March 20, 2024.

The adjournment was ordered by Speaker Alban Bagbin following a detailed response to a Presidential caution against forwarding the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, commonly known as the anti-gay bill, for presidential assent.

On May 3, 2024, the Majority Caucus petitioned the Speaker for an urgent recall to address critical government business. Key items on the agenda include the adoption of the Thirty-Fourth Report of the Appointments Committee and a motion on additional financing.

A letter from the Office of the Speaker has summoned Members of Parliament back from recess to commence proceedings today.
