Black Stars forward Jordan Ayew delivered a stellar performance by scoring a hat trick in Ghana’s dramatic 4-3 victory over the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

This match was part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, securing Ghana’s position at the top of Group I with nine points from three wins in four games.

Ayew, who returned to the starting lineup, justified head coach Otto Addo’s decision with a near-perfect hat trick. The Crystal Palace player opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a penalty, followed by a header in the 60th minute, and completed his hat trick in the 69th minute with a close-range strike. Fatawu Issahaku added to the scoreline with a deflected shot in the 62nd minute, completing Ghana’s comeback.

Despite CAR striker Louis Mafouta also scoring a hat trick, including a sublime free kick in the 90th minute, his efforts were not enough. CAR held a 2-1 lead at halftime, capitalizing on defensive lapses by Ghana. However, an improved second-half performance by the Black Stars secured their win.

The match also saw England-born Brandon Thomas-Asante, who plays for West Bromwich Albion, make his international debut for the Black Stars.

Ghana’s victory further solidifies their lead in Group I, bringing them closer to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
