Mahama vows to recover funds and properties acquired through corruption if elected president
John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has vowed that his administration will work with relevant authorities and partners to recover funds and properties obtained through corrupt means if he is elected in the December 7 general elections.
Former President Mahama expressed concern over the increasing cases of corruption and lack of fiscal discipline under the Akufo-Addo administration, promising to ensure that all wrongfully acquired funds are recovered if he wins.
Referring to the former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah’s controversial stashing of over $1 million in her Abelemkpe residence, which was stolen by her domestic staff, Mahama, in a live broadcast themed ‘Mahama Conversations,’ pledged to collaborate with both local and international anti-corruption partners to recover all unlawfully taken taxpayer money.
He criticized the opulence of the current administration’s officials and their families, who charter private jets at $20,000 per hour for trips that could have been done by the Falcon Executive Jet, which, according to the Minister for Defence, lacked a shower for a presidential bath.
Mahama emphasized the need to address how a minister could stash millions of dollars in her home and stressed his commitment to retrieving such wrongfully acquired wealth with the help of Ghanaians and international partners.
