Corp Nation Champions “Our Land, Our Future” with New Takoradi Clean-Up for World Environment Day
To eradicate the menace of plastics in the environment, CorpNation and its partners have organized a clean-up exercise in the New Takoradi community.
The move forms part of observing this year’s World Environment Day.
This year, the theme for World Environment Day focuses on land restoration, halting desertification, and building drought resilience under the slogan “our land, our future.”
Jerry Mensah, the project coordinator in charge of the 4R initiative of Corp Nation, mentioned to journalists that improper handling of plastics affects the environment, which inadvertently contributes to climate change.
According to him, using the 4R plus is to help mitigate the effects of plastics by adopting the reduce, reuse, recycle and recovery methods in schools and communities to eliminate plastics.
Mr. Jerry Mensah also advocates for tree planting to help in the land restoration agenda.
” The 4R Plus is an initiative just to eradicate the plastic menace in our system, so with research, we got to find out that 70 percent of our rubbish collected from home is mostly plastics, so we are using the reduce, reuse, recycle and recovery method in the school and community to work through the agenda to eradicate or mitigate the plastic menace in town that contribute to climate change.
We do tree planting as well because moving with the slogan for World Environment Day, 2024. So we restore our lands by planting trees, making sure that everything that will make the land to desertification,”
In ensuring the sustainability of the exercise, Mr. Jerry Mensah noted that youth clubs have been established to commit to ensuring the cleanliness of the environment.
” We’ve made sure we’ve established youth clubs here, there are youth clubs conscientising the youth.
So they are ambassadors here in the community and they keep the fight ongoing for its means every weekend, they do clean-up campaigns here.
We come through Corp Nation to keep them up with regards to health safety and the environment just because we care for nature and the environment,”
The Assembly Member for Lower New Takoradi, Gilbert Siaw Afriyie, lauded Corp Nation for partnering with the community to carry out the clean-up exercise.
He advised community members to avoid indiscriminately dumping refuse around the community and embrace cleanliness through clean-up exercises.
“I’m impressed, Corp Nation is doing a very good job, they have been in existence for barely two years.
When they came to New Takoradi with the idea, I bought into it because if I have somebody to help me clean my area why shouldn’t I, they are doing a fantastic job.
I always tell my community members to do the right thing when it comes to waste disposal,”
