Accra Circuit Court sentences man to 12 Months in prison for laptop theft
A 24-year-old man has been sentenced to 12 months in prison by an Accra Circuit Court for stealing a laptop from an artiste who offered him a place to stay.
David Boateng pleaded guilty to stealing the HP-branded laptop valued at GH¢3,500. The court, presided over by Mrs. Susan Eduful, convicted Boateng based on his plea.
Prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu, stated that the complainant, Evans Kotey Djanie, a resident artiste at Teshie First Junction, allowed Boateng, an Ashaiman resident, to stay in his room after Boateng claimed he needed a place to sleep.
While Djanie was away for voice training, Boateng absconded with the laptop. He was later apprehended by Djanie behind the Teshie Police Station when he returned to demand money.
Upon his arrest, Boateng admitted to the theft in a caution statement and led the police to recover the stolen laptop in Ashaiman.
