Suspect remanded for stabbing Hawa Koomson’s son during EC office clash in Kasoa

An Accra High Court has remanded Usman Haruna into police custody for allegedly stabbing Ato Koomson, the son of Awutu Senya East MP

An Accra High Court on Thursday, June 6, 2024, remanded Usman Haruna into police custody for allegedly stabbing Ato Koomson, the son of Awutu Senya East MP Mavis Hawa Koomson.

The incident occurred during a scuffle at the Electoral Commission‘s office in Ofaakor near Kasoa, Central Region.

The altercation took place at dawn on Sunday, June 2, 2024, around 5 am, just before the day’s activities at the EC office were set to begin. Police apprehended Haruna during the disturbance that led to the stabbing of Mr. Koomson. The suspect is scheduled to reappear in court on June 19, 2024.

According to an eyewitness, the clash arose from a disagreement over the queuing process for voters looking to transfer their votes to the constituency.

During the violence, Ato Koomson was stabbed in the chest and subsequently rushed to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. Additionally, three members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) sustained injuries and were admitted to the Kasoa Polyclinic.
