GRIDCo warns Ghanaians not to erect structures under transmission lines

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has cautioned Ghanaians against building structures under transmission lines, highlighting the significant danger these actions pose to lives and property.

This warning follows a fire incident at Circle ECOMOG, which resulted in the destruction of electricity pylons and caused widespread power outages in major parts of Accra on Wednesday, June 5.

Dzifa Bampoe, Head of Communications at GRIDCo, emphasized the risks associated with being under transmission lines.

He noted that living or erecting structures in these areas is unsafe and stressed that GRIDCo regularly clears such areas of encroachments, though people often return.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Titus Glover, assured that rebuilding under GRIDCo’s transmission lines at Circle ECOMOG will not be permitted.

He warned that anyone attempting to do so will face arrest, stating that the area is a national asset crucial for power transmission.

He also instructed that police presence will be maintained around the clock to prevent any re-encroachment.
