FDA issues a public warning about the proper use of products containing naphthalene
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued a warning to the public about the proper use of naphthalene-containing products, noting that these products are registered as insecticides in Ghana.
In a statement released on Tuesday, June 4, the FDA emphasized that naphthalene products should be used only for their intended purpose and according to the instructions on their labels.
The labels on registered naphthalene products in Ghana include warnings and cautions, such as the necessity to keep them away from children, food, water, and fire due to their flammability.
The FDA has mandated specific labeling requirements for naphthalene-containing products, which include directions for use and proper storage instructions.
The Authority highlighted that misuse of these products could result in adverse effects, but adhering to the usage instructions will ensure safe use.
The FDA has urged the public to follow the labeling instructions for these products and all other chemicals to ensure health and safety.
The Authority announced its collaboration with relevant agencies to ensure the safe and sustained use of naphthalene products in Ghana.
FDA mentioned that in Ghana, registered naphthalene-containing products for use as insecticides and informs the public that the labels on these products provide sufficient information on their proper use, warnings, and cautions.
Also, the Authority highlighted that these products should be kept away from children and food, including water, and as they are flammable, they should be kept away from fire.
