Ashanti Region’s POLAS calls for inclusive menstrual hygiene education

POLAS

The Police Ladies Association (POLAS) in Ghana’s Ashanti Region is pushing for comprehensive menstrual hygiene education for young girls nationwide.

Drawing from their experiences with girls in the legal system, they’ve identified a need for proper menstrual management and access to sanitary products.

To mark World Menstrual Hygiene Day, POLAS visited four schools, donating sanitary products and panties worth GHS 50,000 to help girls stay in school during their periods.

They also provided educational sessions on menstrual hygiene management.

Superintendent Lydia Acheampong Ntow explained that this initiative helps bridge the gap between the police and young children, demonstrating that the police are friends, not just enforcers.

The effort shows that the Ghana Police Service’s role goes beyond protection to making a positive impact on lives.

Lance Corporal Dorcas Pomaa stressed that the Ghana Police Service’s mission goes beyond just keeping people safe, to also making a positive difference in their lives, particularly for young girls who need support and care.
