SSNIT hotels: President Akufo-Addo tasks Labour Minister to initiate discussions with organized labour
President Nana Akufo-Addo has intervened in the contentious sale of four SSNIT hotels to Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong, following concerns raised by Organised Labour.
Responding to a petition from labour leaders, the president has tasked Employment and Labour Relations Minister Ignatius Baffour Awuah with initiating discussions to resolve the dispute.
The president aims to ensure that the interests of all stakeholders are considered and a mutually acceptable solution is found. Dr. Yaw Baah, Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), confirmed this directive during a media briefing.
“We wrote to the president about the need to engage him on this matter. He has referred it to the [Employment and Labour Relations] Minister to start discussions with us. We hope these engagements will help find a solution to what we see as a problem,” Dr. Yaw Baah stated.
Organised Labour leaders are set to meet with the SSNIT Board and the Employment and Labour Relations Minister, who also oversees pensions, to address the issue.
Additionally, North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who first exposed the sale, has petitioned the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate the transaction.
