The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development has announced an intensified engagement with stakeholders in preparation for the 2024 closed fishing season.

Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson stated that educational efforts about the exercise have reached a majority of fishermen.

The closed fishing season is scheduled from July 1 to July 31 for canoes and inshore vessels, while industrial trawlers will observe the season from July 1 to August 31.

In a media briefing, Mavis Hawa Koomson confirmed that fishermen have been well-informed about this year’s exercise.

She noted that the efforts have been expanded this year by involving more members, not just a few executives, resulting in a full room and indicating a deeper outreach.

Hawa Koomson added that during her recent visit to Sekondi, she informed the fishermen about the upcoming season and continues to send out messages.

She used the platform to remind everyone that they should now be accustomed to the closed season, recognizing its significant benefits.
